City in the Country

Abbyistest. on the flats

Berry fields, Baker on the horizon, and the best samosas this side of the Fraser - Abby's good stuff, mapped.

They call Abbotsford the City in the Country, and for once the slogan holds up. It's berry fields running flat to the U.S. line, Mount Baker parked on the horizon like it pays rent, and a downtown that quietly got good while nobody was looking. Abbyist is the field guide to all of it.

We mean the Field House patio on a Friday, a flight at Old Abbey, the Ravens taproom you didn't plan on closing down. The samosa counter on South Fraser Way that ruins every other samosa for you. The Gur Sikh Temple up on the hill - oldest in North America, and you've driven past it a hundred times. Sunday at the Clayburn Village store for penny candy and a brick-oven everything.

Berry season at the farm stands, corn mazes out on Sumas Prairie, tulips and Bradner daffodils blowing up your camera roll come spring, and the Airshow rattling your windows every August. Laps at Mill Lake before work, the Discovery Trail after, a Fraser Valley cider crawl when the orchards turn. Highstreet when you need the mall; downtown when you need the good stuff.

From Clearbrook to Clayburn, the Matsqui flats to Sumas Mountain, McMillan to Mt. Lehman - Abbyist covers the whole valley the way locals actually live it. Big enough to surprise you, country enough to still wave from the truck. Get ready, Abby.
